Fix the Problem with Wireless Adapter or Access Point: 5 Proven Solutions

A problem with wireless adapter or access point is quite common in Windows 10. It indicates an issue with the wireless network. Whenever you are using your Windows 10 PC and face an issue with the internet, there could be many reasons behind it.

  3. Additionally, antivirus often interferes with wireless connectivity. So, you need to eliminate that factor as well. Make sure to turn off the antivirus for the time being and try to establish a connection. Do not forget to turn on the antivirus after the work is done.

Fix 1: Update the Wi-Fi Driver

  • Open Run Dialogue Box by pressing Windows + R keys together
  • Then, type ncpa.cpl in the dialogue box and click the Enter key. This will open the Network Connections window
  • Once the Network Connection window opens, navigate to the list of adapters and expand the one you are using by right-clicking on it
  • Then, select the Properties option
  • After that, select the Configure option and then the Update Driver option
  • Now, you will see an option saying Browse my computer for driver software. Click on it.
  • After that, you will find some instructions appearing on the screen. You simply have to follow the instructions to complete the update.

Once you are done with updating the Wi-Fi driver, close the window. Then, restart your PC so that the changes can take place. And, check whether the problem with wireless adapter or access point is there or not.

Fix 2: Reset the Network Profile

Resetting the Network Profile can resolve the issue with the Wi-Fi adapter as well.

  • Click on the Windows search bar and look for Command Prompt
  • Upon finding the Command Prompt, open it with administrative privileges
  • Then, type this command: netsh wlan delete profile name=”WirelessProfileName”
  • Then, hit the Enter key to execute the command

Once you are done with the procedure, make sure you reboot the PC once. If this fix fails to resolve the issue as well, then try the next one.

Fix 3: Disable the IP Helper Service

This is another solution you can try when you are facing a problem with wireless adapter or access point.

  • Open Run Dialogue Box and type services.msc
  • Then, press Enter
  • When the Service Manager window opens, navigate to the IP Helper from the services list
  • Expand the Properties by right clicking on IP Helper service
  • Locate the Startup type and change it to Disabled
  • Apply the changes and restart the PC

Fix 4: Reinstall the Adapter Driver

  • Open the Network Connections window again using the Run Dialogue Box
  • Locate the Network Adapter you are using and expand its Properties by right-clicking
  • Then, locate and select the option Configure
  • After that, select the option Uninstall Device and then choose Uninstall
  • Once you are done with uninstalling the driver, restart your device

Now, as the PC restarts, you will find a notification on screen regarding the missing driver. Continue with the instructions that will appear on the screen and Windows will install the driver by itself.

After that, you need to restart the device once again. Hopefully, this time you won’t face the same problem with wireless adapter or access point anymore.

Fix 5: Power-Cycle the Modem-Router-Computer

The last solution you can try if the problem persists is Power-Cycle the Modem-Router-Computer.

  • Open Command Prompt using either Run Dialogue box or Windows search bar
  • Type ipconfig and hit Enter
  • Now, you will find some information on the screen. And, you need to check the value of IPv4 address. If the address happen to begin with 169.254.***.***, then there is a condition called APIPA.

In that case, you need to turn off the router and PC both. Disconnect all the cables and then connect everything again. Let your PC boot and detect the network.
